Spring Teaching and Learning Symposium

The 11th annual Spring Symposium will be held from May 20 - 22, 2009. The 2009 Teaching & Learning Symposium brings together all of us—faculty, staff, post-docs, and graduate students—to share best practices, celebrate accomplishments, discuss new teaching pedagogy, and explore themes of mutual interest.

The theme of the 2008 symposium was : "Shaping our Future: Teaching and Learning at UW-Madison." The Symposium explored what is enduring about teaching and learning at UW-Madison, and what has dramatically changed. Issues discussed included: lasting values that frame our teaching, changes in what represents pedagogical innovation (and what the future might bring), and revolutionary technological changes, and dramatic ways in which our students change and learn. To learn more about the event, please visit Symposium.

Summer Institute

The 2009 Summer Institute will be held June 1st-4th at the Auditorium in the Arboretum Visitor Center on the UW-Madison campus. The theme of this summer institute is the Dynamic Classroom. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Co-directors, Nick Balster or Erica Halverson or Christine Lupton.

Participants will have the opportunity to reflect upon their teaching goals, discuss course design and teaching/learning issues with colleagues, explore service learning and teaching technology, and develop classroom and curriculum strategies to design new courses or re-design existing courses. The Summer Institute offers a variety of formats for participants, including large-group presentations, group disussions, and individual reflection and project time. University faculty and academic staff serve as facilitators for discussions as well as presenters for large group topics.
