Regan Gurung at UW-GB offers several suggestions on how one can re-engergize an old course.

Dishabituate, i.e., break out of an old pattern

  • change textbooks
  • change assignments
  • change your mode of delivery, e.g., PowerPoint, overhead, whiteboard, online

Reform(at)

  • review other syllabi (colleagues, online)
  • record your thoughts in a teaching journal (post-class or post-semester)
  • review course assessments and course goals

Let Go (of control)

  • make use of guest lecturers
  • include student presentations/group work
  • include small group activities during class time
