How Can I Become a Better Teacher?

With a little effort and support, we can all become better instructors. Several programs on campus are available to help us in this regard.

The University of Wisconsin provides a variety of support services for enhancing instruction.  Some of these include:

  • Center for Biology Education (http://www.wisc.edu/cbe/) - CBE offers many opportunities and resources for improvement of undergraduate instruction in the biological sciences. Contact: Lillian Tong (tong@wisc.edu)
  • Delta Program in Research, Teaching and Learning (http://www.delta.wisc.edu/) - The Delta Program is a teaching and learning community for science, engineering and math graduate students, post-docs, academic staff and faculty. Contact: Robert D. Mathieu (mathieu@astro.wisc.edu)
  • Engineering Learning Center (http://www.engr.wisc.edu/services/elc/) - The ELC mission is to focus on sustaining educational excellence by fostering effective student-centered teaching and learning within the College of Engineering. Contact: Sandra Shaw Courter (courter@engr.wisc.edu)
  • HHMI New Generation Program for Scientific Teaching (http://scientificteaching.wisc.edu/) - The goal of the HHMI New Generation Program for Scientific Teaching is to cultivate a new generation of faculty and resources to enhance undergraduate biology education.
