Making Lectures More Interactive

The Top 5 Teaching Challenges are a series of events and discussion forums focusing on the Top 5 Teaching Challenges identified by UW Madison faculty and instructors. This forum is a collaborative effort between DoIT Academic Technologies and the UW Teaching Academy.
Jeff Henriques, Teaching Academy co-chair and Psychology Faculty will open the Top 5 Teaching Challenges series with a presentation regarding lecture interactivity and threshold concepts on November 4th from 12-1pm at Grainger Hall. In an effort to build the conversations around this subject, ANYONE is welcome to contribute to these forums as we discuss teaching challenges. (You don't even have to be at the event to chime in!)
Threshold concepts are part of a UW System Leadership Site initiative, and according to their website are, "ideas students need to learn if they are to get any further in a particular subject area; not because someone says they have to learn them, but because the subject itself demands it." So let's get this conversation going!
What are some teaching challenges you face in addressing threshold concepts in your courses?
How are you providing interactive learning experiences in lectures to support such concepts?
What solutions have you found that work for both you and your students?
